What are free ways to practise for the UCAT?

Start with the official UCAT Consortium resources, which are free: question tutorials, question banks and practice tests. After that, free tiers and trials from Medistudents, MedEntry, Medify and UCAT Pulse let you try more questions without paying. UCAT Pulse is free to start with no account.

Checked 15 October 2026.

1. The official resources

The UCAT Consortium lists these on its preparation resources page, all free: the Get UCAT Ready webinars and Q&As, a preparation checklist, the Tour Tutorial and a written test tools page, Question Tutorials with strategies and worked examples for each question type, question banks, and practice tests.

  • The question banks are split by subtest: four each for Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning, and three for Situational Judgement. Each question has an Explain Answer option.
  • The practice tests page lists 12: four at standard timing, four with 25% extra time and four untimed.
  • The limits are worth knowing. Progress is not saved, and the practice tests do not store results or give you a score. Keep your own record of what you have done and what went wrong.

2. Free tiers and trials

Free UCAT practice options, checked 15 October 2026
OptionWhat is freeWhat the page says it needs
Medistudents (Medibuddy)A free adaptive question bank and a free practice testA sign-up for the question bank (labelled a free trial)
MedEntryA free practice exam, feedback and diagnostics, a question bank, video tutorials and skills trainers, plus the appName and email. The page says no costs, no obligations and no credit card
MedifyA Free plan: study notes, a guidebook and a work experience map. The UCAT page also says "Try it free"The pages checked do not say how long a trial lasts or which UCAT features it covers
UCAT PulseFree to start, with no account. Pro is a one-off £19.99, with no subscriptionNothing to start. The free tier has a limit, which Pro lifts

A simple order to use them in

  1. Week one: official tutorials and the Tour Tutorial. Learn the question types and the test tools before you time anything.
  2. Next: one official question bank per subtest, with Explain Answer on. Write down each wrong answer and why.
  3. Then: a free tier for volume. Pick one so you can tell whether the style helps. Do not sign up for all of them at once.
  4. Keep the official practice tests for later. There are only 12 and they do not give a score, so use them to check timing near the end.

Best for

  • Official resources: best first step and best reference for what the test will look like.
  • Medistudents: best for a free adaptive question bank.
  • MedEntry: best for a free full practice exam with feedback.
  • UCAT Pulse: best for a free daily habit on an iPhone or in a browser, with spaced review of mistakes.
  • Medify's Free plan: best for the study notes and guidebook, if you want to see its style before subscribing.

FAQ

What are free ways to practise for the UCAT?

The official UCAT Consortium question tutorials, question banks and practice tests are free. Medistudents, MedEntry, Medify and UCAT Pulse also have free tiers or trials.

Are the official UCAT practice tests enough?

They are the best reference for the format, but progress is not saved and the practice tests give no score. Many people add a question bank for volume.

Is UCAT Pulse free?

UCAT Pulse is free to start with no account. The free tier has a limit. UCAT Pulse Pro is a one-off £19.99 with no subscription.

Do I need to pay for UCAT preparation?

No. The UCAT Consortium says its free materials are official and that paid preparation is not necessary. Paid platforms add volume, mocks and analytics.

Is Abstract Reasoning still in the UCAT?

No. It was withdrawn in 2025. Practise Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning and Situational Judgement.

Is UCAT Pulse official?

No. UCAT Pulse is unofficial and is not affiliated with, authorised or endorsed by the UCAT Consortium or Pearson VUE.
